When Martin Luther King Jr checked into Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, one of the few in Memphis to give black Americans a friendly welcome, the eyes of the world were upon him. In the shared bathroom at the back of Ray’s boarding house, there was a window overlooking the Lorraine Motel.
