The US, UK and France have carried out air strikes targeting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons capabilities. US President Donald Trump said the combined operation was part of a response that would be sustained until Syria stopped its use of chemical weapons, though his defence secretary said it was a “one-time shot”. The operation by the three allies came after a suspected poison gas attack in Syria last week that potentially killed dozens of civilians.
