Hawaii's Maui Island wildfire forces evacuations

The 3,000 acre brush fire in Maui's central valley was uncontrolled Thursday night, Maui Mayor Mike Victorino told a news conference. A National Weather Service satellite photo showing smoke hanging over the island was posted on local media and social media sites. The brush fire was reported about 10:30 a.m., local time, and steady winds of up to 20 mph fanned the flames, officials said.
